Travel health insurance is essential for traveling worldwide. Why is it important and for whom does CareMed insurance protection apply? For good reasons and answers go to home page as well as our FAQ section.

  1. Get a quote anonymously: Enter below data and the applicable offer is shown. You may choose your insurance options individually. Note: Travel insurance shall be taken out for the entire stay abroad and a change of coverage is not possible after insurance start.
  2. Personal data: Enter all data, select payment method and optionally create a login.
  3. Verification & payment: Confirm entries and you will be referred to secure payment website.
  4. Insurance documents: After successful payment insurance confirmation will be available for download.
  5. Confirm e-mail address & activate login (optional): Please confirm your e-mail address by clicking on the link we've emailed you and you will receive all documents by e-mail. Also, you will have access to login area if you've chosen this option.

With CareMed, people of most nationalities can be insured for a stay abroad limited in time, aged between 3 months and 64 years inclusive. The prerequisite is that your home country continues to be your permanent place of residence.

Exception: Due to the Brexit, we unfortunately are no longer able to insure travelers with permanent residency/home country in the UK. Please contact local providers for assistance.

Our comprehensive insurance cover is suitable for worldwide stays abroad for all travelers and especially for:

Due to other risks and needs, we cannot insure professional athletes or people in need of care.
Are you already abroad?
Although CareMed international insurance should always be taken out before departure and for the entire trip, it can also be used as a follow-up insurance if travel plans change unexpectedly. Answer "no" to the question about being in your home country and you will receive the appropriate offer with information about possible waiting periods, exclusions etc.

We understand your concern due to the current situation. We are pleased to confirm that CareMed insurance cover remains valid also in times of the Corona crisis.
For the authorities, you will receive an additional confirmation in English confirming the coverage of COVID.

Comprehensive insurance coverage includes infection with Corona: CareMed International Insurance provides 100% cover for medically necessary treatment of acute illnesses. Virus infections are naturally included in the protection, whereby every insured person is obliged to keep the risk as low as possible.

Quarantine and costs for rebooking: Additional travel costs for rebooking or cancellation in case of quarantine or restrictions in the home country/destination are not covered. Special Corona travel cancelation insurance must be purchased for this purpose.

Travel advice, travel warnings, epidemic, pandemic: CareMed insurance cover exists regardless of travel restrictions and classifications of a virus.

Cancelation free of charge before the start of the insurance: Should your trip be canceled at short notice or not be possible, inform us by e-mail and we will refund the full amount.

Early return home: If you terminate your trip earlier than planned, the premium for the unused period will be refunded after written notification to CareMed; the exact conditions can be found under the tab "Insurance changes".

Unexpected extension of the stay abroad/ travel restrictions: If your stay is unexpectedly extended, apply for the renewal before your insurance expires. Always take out insurance cover for the maximum travel period, as an extension is not guaranteed and early termination is possible.

Insurance coverage has always to be taken out for the entire stay abroad. In case you don't know the end date of your trip, you enroll for the maximum travel period. The maximum insurance period is 24 months, 12 months for travel destination Germany. Please be aware that a renewal cannot be guaranteed. In case you return home earlier, you may request a reimbursement, details are shown below (see "insurance changes").

Depending on your destination, you may select destination worldwide or worldwide without USA & Canada. Consequently, you are very flexible concerning the countries you are traveling to. During the application process you simply enter your first travel destination without considering stop-overs. Coverage worldwide including the USA & Canada also applies to the American territories and possessions which include American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico die US Virgin Islands.

Total amount from a bank account based in Europe; only possible for transfers processed at least 3 days prior to start of insurance. Insurance confirmation is available one working day after payment receipt.

Each person will be enrolled individually in accordance with the specific situation and requirements. Therefore insurance plans may differ from each other.
After submission of your first application and payment you may enroll further persons with same travel dates. Basic data will be kept so that you may either adapt or save it prior to insurance application.

Changes/corrections: Your travel period is rescheduled or you would like to adapt insurance coverage? Simply e-mail your changes prior to insurance start to us and we are pleased to change your insurance accordingly.
Cancelation/early return home: All changes are possible prior to insurance start, also your insurance may be cancelled free of charge. Once your CareMed coverage has commenced, upon written notice to CareMed, you will receive a refund for the remaining coverage period less an administrative fee of €15.00/US$17.00, provided the remaining period is at least 31 days. Termination is not possible retroactively.
Renewal: In case your stay abroad is extended unexpectedly, you log in online to request a renewal of your insurance prior to the date of expiration or write us an e-mail. Please note that a renewal cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, always take out insurance coverage for the maximum travel period.

Insurance coverage needs to be taken out for the entire stay abroad, travel documents may be required as proof in case of a claim.

Travel insurance while abroad

Travel insurance shall be purchased prior to the start of travel. If you are already abroad, please truthfully choose from options below. We may exceptionally provide CareMed insurance protection even though you are already traveling. Insurance must be taken out for the entire remaining stay abroad. If you are still at home, we recommend taking out insurance for the entire stay abroad.
Please note that pre-existing conditions are excluded and that there is a waiting period of 31 days for illnesses. The waiting period is waived in the event of an acute and life-threatening illness or for accidents. A comparable previous insurance policy effective since departure without interruption up to the start of insurance will be credited against the waiting period. The insurance proof shall be submitted in case of a claim.

IMPORTANT NOTE
As you are already abroad and there is no active insurance coverage at the moment e.g. from another provider, there will be a waiting period of 31 days for illnesses with CareMed insurance. For details please read page 5 of terms and conditions.
